23/03/10 The Yee surprise night, with Juniors versus Seniors over a giant chess set. The teams had to select a captain who then had to choose a scorer, piece mover and clock presser. The time control was 25 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. Seniors Captain was Craig Blaxall, who also chose to be the Piece Mover and Clock Presser. Seniors Scorer was Tony Booth. Juniors Captain was Luke Li, who also chose to be the Piece Mover. Juniors Scorer was Henry Jiang. Juniors Clock Presser was James Lee. From left are Paul Morten, Eric Wu, Alan Chen, Keniel Yao, Hristo Kolev, Luke Li, Henry Jiang (front), Katy Qiu (obscured), Oliver Li and James Lee. Many thanks to Manukau Institute of Technology for lending us the giant chess pieces, and to Spillers Hammer Hardware for lending us the giant chess board. Photo by Stan Yee.

23/03/10 The Yee surprise night. After a hiding from the Seniors, the Juniors bow in total submission to the superior intellect, knowledge and wisdom of the Seniors. For the game see Games 2010. From left: Catherin Chen, Oliver Li, Olivia Dong (obscured), Katy Qiu, Hristo Kolev, Luke Li, Keniel Yao, James Lee and Henry Jiang. The Seniors won a candy bar each. We then played over the 5th game of the Puchen Wang versus David Smerdon match P Wang vs D Smerdon Game 5, stopping at critical positions, and the person who thought they knew the next move would put their hand up, and if correct would win a candy bar. A certain Senior who shall remain nameless was obviously not school trained and kept shouting out moves ... but eventually won the last candy bar, after a determined effort!
