At Howick-Pakuranga Chess Club, we believe chess is about more than winning games, competing in tournaments or developing thinking skills. It’s also about making friends, having fun and feeling part of a community.
While we encourage our members to develop their chess skills, we also look for opportunities to make their time at the club enjoyable and rewarding.
Sometimes, it’s the little moments that matter most — a group of friends gathered around a chessboard solving a tricky puzzle together, sharing ideas and learning from one another. Or simply taking a break from chess to make hot chocolate for each other, enjoying a chat and a laugh along the way.
These moments help our young members build friendships, develop confidence and learn the value of teamwork, kindness and supporting one another.
We want our members to look forward to coming to chess club — not just for the chess, but for the friends they make and the sense of belonging they find here.
After all, some of the best memories at chess club are made both on and off the chessboard!
